Hyperloop

Between September 2017 to July 2018, I was a member of The University of Edinburgh Hyperloop team, HYPED. Hyperloop is Elon Musk's proposed fifth form of transport, where passengers and/or freight is transported in autonomous pods that travel at aircraft like speeds in a sealed tube at a near vacuum.

During my time at Hyped, I managed a team of three engineers to design, develop, and manufacture the teams first dedicated emergency braking system capable of stopping the 500kg pod from 290 km/h in 130 meters. To enable the desired operation, I engaged and collaborated with TMD Friction to develop a custom friction material and pad, which was also used on the following year's pod.

The pod competed in the 2018 Hyperloop competition hosted by SpaceX and The Boring Company in Los Angeles, USA. At this competition, the team placed sixth among over 1000 other competing teams.
