Design, Modelling (and Manufacturing) of an Active Rocket Air Brake System

For my final year individual project (dissertation) I designed an active air brake system for Endeavour's Darwin II rocket. The design utilises three symmetric and equispaced fins around the circumference of the rocket body that can extend up to 30mm and induce a minimum of 75N of drag at 23,500 feet.

The project includes various activities such as: the creation of a technical specification, validation and verification (V&V), simulations, and technical drawings.

I was additionally awarded the IMechE Best Project Certificate for my academic achievement, which is awarded to the best performing graduates on the project component of each MEng degree programme.
